The variety was created from open-pollinated seedlings of Rhododendron catawbiense ('Grandiflorum'). The plant is a shrub with a rounded crown shape, reaching a height of 110–120 cm at maturity.
The flowers are purple, complemented by dark spotting inside. The flowering period occurs in June. The variety is viable in cultivation and adapted to the climatic conditions of the region of origin.
