The variety is a low-growing shrub with a dense spherical or spreading crown, reaching a height of 50–60 cm by 10 years, and 80–90 cm at maturity. The leaves are oblong-oval, glossy, and dark green.
The flowers are funnel-shaped to bell-shaped, bright red, with wavy petal edges and dark speckling, gathered in inflorescences of 6–10. There is no fragrance. Flowering occurs from mid-May to mid-June.
The plant has high frost resistance, withstanding temperatures down to –32...–34 °C. The variety requires acidic, humus-rich, well-drained moist soils and needs protection from direct spring sun.
