The variety is a descendant of the ancient Rèze variety and is genetically distinct from other varieties of the Groppello group. The name derives from a dialect word meaning knot, which refers to the characteristic shape of small or medium cylindrical and very compact clusters.
The berries are black, medium-sized, spherical, and covered with bloom. The variety is characterized by late ripening, frost resistance, and requirements regarding soil quality and slope exposure. Due to its susceptibility to Botrytis cinerea, site selection is critical.
Wine variety intended for the production of red wines with high acidity, elegant tannins, and aromas of wild berries, wild fruits, and black pepper. The pomace is also used for the production of grappa.
