Variety description

The variety is of autochthonous Italian origin and is the result of a natural crossing between the Cornacchia variety and an unknown parent species. The vines have medium vigor and perfect flowers. A characteristic feature of the variety is the acquisition of a red hue by leaves, shoots, and rachises in the autumn period.

Clusters are small, conical in shape, and of medium density, with a weight of 150–200 g. Berries are medium-sized, ovoid, dark blue, almost black in color, and covered with a thick waxy bloom. The variety is not resistant to frosts and fungal diseases.

The grapes are used for the production of red still and sparkling wines, which are characterized by high tannin content and alcohol levels. The aroma of the finished wines features notes of cherry, dark plum, wild berries, as well as spicy and balsamic undertones.
