The variety is a natural mutation of Grolleau noir and is most characteristic of the French regions of Anjou and Touraine. The plant is characterized by medium to small clusters and berries, the skins of which have a pinkish-gray hue with a golden sheen. The variety shows a tendency to revert to the original red type under certain pruning conditions.

The grape is well adapted to the temperate climate of the Loire Valley, where it demonstrates good yield and the ability to accumulate sufficient maturity while maintaining acidity. Wines from this variety are distinguished by their freshness and aromatics with notes of white fruits, citrus, and mineral undertones.
