The variety belongs to the Groppello family and historically originates from the northern regions of Italy. It is a wine grape variety used for creating varietal wines or blends within regional winemaking categories.
The plant has good vigor. The leaf is medium-sized, pentagonal, three- or five-lobed, with a powdery hue. The cluster is small, dense, weighing 150–180 g, and cylindrical or conical in shape. The berries are medium-sized, round, dark blue, with a thick bloom.
The variety is prone to Botrytis cinerea due to the cluster structure and is also sensitive to esca and magnesium and potassium deficiency. Wines made from it have a ruby-red color, medium acidity, full body, a soft taste, and a fruity-spicy aroma.
