The variety is a "direct producer" hybrid. Its genetic formula includes components of the species Vitis vinifera, Vitis berlandieri, Vitis rupestris, Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia and Vitis lincecumii.
The variety belongs to the mid-season ripening group and possesses rather high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to -30°C. Yield is characterized as unstable from year to year. The grapes are used to produce high-quality dark-colored red wines.
