The Cypriot variety Mavro is an ancient autochthonous wine grape of mid-late maturity, adapted to hot climates. It is characterized by high yield and large clusters with juicy dark blue berries. The variety is susceptible to fungal diseases and is a key component for the production of Commandaria dessert wine and Zivania spirit.

The table hybrid form "Mavr" was obtained by crossing the varieties "Podarok Zaporozhyu" and "Tamerlan". It is a vigorous plant of early-mid maturity with a bisexual flower and large clusters weighing up to 1600 g. The berries are black, very large, firm and crunchy. The variety has resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew and frost hardiness down to -22°C.
