Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is native to Argolis and Corinthia and is genetically related to the Peloponnesian variety group "Mavroudi". The name comes from Greek words meaning "black" and "astringent", which indicates the dark color of the berries and high tannin levels.

The berries are small, thick-skinned, and contain a high concentration of coloring agents, providing the wines with a deep purple hue. Wines from this variety are characterized by a pronounced structure, balanced acidity, and potential for long aging.
