The variety originates from the Messenikolas region in Thessaly. Genetic studies indicate kinship with the Xinomavro variety. The grapes are used exclusively for the production of dry red wines within the controlled designation of origin zone.
The grapes belong to late-ripening varieties. Regarding phytosanitary status, susceptibility to downy mildew and gray mold is noted. Wines from this variety are characterized by deep color, fruity aroma, full-bodied texture, and soft tannins.
