Variety description

The variety is an ancient local Greek grape, genetically close to the Kountoura mavri variety, with which it may be identical, and the Mavrostifo variety. It is used exclusively in winemaking for the production of red wines.

The chemical composition of the berries is distinguished by a high concentration of total phenolic compounds. At the same time, anthocyanin content levels may be lower than those of a number of other local varieties, despite the rich phenolic profile.

At present, the variety is considered understudied and underutilized. Specific agrotechnical parameters, such as maturity group and disease resistance, are not described in published scientific research.
