The variety originates from the Piedmont region, Italy. Genetically, it is the result of a cross between the Moscato bianco and Orsolina varieties. In the past, the variety was often confused with Aleatico and Malaga. It has an early maturity group and is characterized as a low-yielding variety with small harvest volumes.
Wine from this variety possesses a ruby color and pronounced aromatic properties. Currently, it is more often used as a table grape or in blends with the Brachetto d'Acqui variety. The variety served as a parent form for breeding other varieties, such as Suavis and Volta.
