The bushes of the variety are medium-vigorous with weak lateral shoot formation. The leaves are medium-sized, round, predominantly five-lobed and deeply dissected, with pronounced bristly-cobwebby pubescence on the underside. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical-conical in shape, and of medium density.
The berries are medium-sized, round, violet in color, and covered with a thick waxy bloom. The variety is genetically unstable and prone to mutations, which is why many clones exist. Nebbiolo is extremely capricious; for complete ripening, it requires the most favorable sites, predominantly with a southern exposure.
The variety is intended exclusively for winemaking. The resulting wines possess complex aromatics with notes of red berries, rose, and violet, and upon aging develop nuances of leather, tobacco, and truffles. The variety has a high potential for long aging.
