The variety forms conical or pyramidal clusters of medium density. The berries are black, medium-sized, round or slightly flattened, covered with an abundant waxy bloom, and have thick, durable skin. The leaves are medium-sized, pentagonal, entire or lobed.
The plant is resistant to winter frosts and drought, but is susceptible to Botrytis cinerea, downy mildew, powdery mildew, esca, and Eutypa dieback. Traditionally, the variety is grown on pergolas; it is currently rare and found primarily in old vineyards.
The grapes are intended for the production of red wines, in which it serves as an auxiliary component in blends with the Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara varieties. The finished wine has a ruby-red color with violet hues, a fruity aroma with notes of cherry and raspberry, soft tannins, and moderate acidity.
