The variety is ancient and local to the Tarn river basin. The plant has good vigor; young shoots have dense pubescence. Mature leaves are dark green, round, entire or five-lobed, with a shiny, blistered surface. Bunches are small and compact; berries are dark blue or purple.
The variety matures in the second phase, yields well with short pruning, and prefers gravelly, sandy, and sandy-loam soils. It is prone to flower abortion, poor fertilization, and vine drooping, requiring trellising. It is characterized by high sensitivity to powdery mildew, gray mold, as well as mite and leafhopper infestations.
Wine from this variety is characterized by a deep ruby color, low acidity, and low tannin content. The aromatic profile is dominated by notes of black berries, licorice, violet, and spices. Due to limited aging potential, it is recommended to consume the wines at a young age.
