The variety is a specific biotype of the Negro Amaro grapevine, also known as Negroamaro Precoce. Genetic studies do not reveal significant differences between this clone and the main variety, however, the mutation determines altered vegetation periods.

The plant is used in winemaking for the production of red and rosé wines. A fundamental physiological characteristic of the biotype is its ability to ripen fruit earlier compared to the classic Negro Amaro.
