The variety is a hybrid of the variety Listán blanco and an unknown parent. The plant leaf is predominantly wedge-shaped, smooth, and moderately dissected. Bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical-conical, and of medium density. Berries are medium-sized, round in shape, dark purple in color with a waxy bloom, and have juicy pulp.
The variety is adapted to hot and windy climates, however, it has low resistance to downy mildew. It is the primary wine variety in Madeira, where it is used to create table and fortified wines, characterized by soft tannins and berry notes.
