Plavina is an autochthonous variety from the Dalmatia region, used for the production of red wines and prošek. The variety is characterized by high and stable yields and belongs to the mid-late maturity group.
The vine is vigorous with hermaphroditic flowers. The leaf is medium-sized, pentagonal, five-lobed, moderately or deeply incised, with dense tomentum on the underside. The bunches are medium to large, conical, and medium-dense. The berries are medium-sized, round, black with a waxy bloom, and have thin skin and juicy pulp.
The variety possesses resistance to adverse conditions but exhibits susceptibility to downy mildew and gray mold. In cold climates, it requires covering the vines for the winter.
