The Merlot variety is of French origin and was obtained by the natural crossing of Magdeleine Noire des Charentes and Cabernet Franc. The bushes are characterized by medium vigor. The period of ripening to technical maturity is 152–164 days.
Clusters are of medium size weighing 110–150 g and have a cylindrical-conical shape and medium density. The berries are round, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom, and possess juicy pulp with a harmonious taste, often with a nightshade undertone.
The variety has frost resistance down to -19...-22 °C and relative resistance to downy mildew and grey mold, however, it is highly susceptible to powdery mildew. Due to the tendency for early bud break, the plant is sensitive to spring frosts; drought tolerance is medium.
