Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is native to Portugal, with mentions dating back to the 16th century. The name translates from Portuguese as "cat's tail" due to the elongated shape of the clusters. The crop is well adapted to hot and dry climates, prefers sandy or schist soils, and has medium vigor and yield.

Rabigato is characterized as an early-ripening variety, sensitive to powdery mildew and downy mildew. Wines from this variety are noted for their lively character and crisp acidity, containing notes of lemon, lime, green apples, and wild herbs. The variety is traditionally used in blends but is also suitable for producing varietal wines with aging potential.
