Scimiscia' B. is an indigenous grape variety, the name of which translates as "spotted" due to the specific coloration of the berries. The plant has high vine vigor and is characterized by a mid-late ripening period. The yield of the variety is moderate and regular; a tendency for weak second flowering is noted.
The variety is moderately resistant to powdery mildew but susceptible to downy mildew and sensitive to sunburn. Due to the density of the clusters and thin skin, it is prone to Botrytis infection. The grapes develop best in complex soils, tolerating excessive moisture or excessive soil fertility poorly.
The wine grape variety is used in the production of white wines with aromas of apple, pear, and herbs, as well as for creating dessert wines such as passito. Historically, the variety was used to increase the sugar content of the must of other wines. Currently, the variety is authorized for use in DOC and IGT category wines.
