The variety is a hybrid bred in 1951 by the breeder Leão Ferreira. The plant has perfect flowers and is characterized by high adaptability, being successfully cultivated in a humid Atlantic climate, for example, in the Azores. The variety is considered sufficiently resistant to fungal diseases, but is susceptible to esca and eutypiosis.

Wines produced from this grape usually have medium acidity, high alcohol content, and pronounced fruitiness with herbaceous or earthy undertones, as well as notes of lime and grapefruit. The main cultivation areas of the variety are concentrated in Portugal, including the Lisbon and Ribatejo regions.
