Variety description

The variety was obtained in 1922 by crossing Saint Laurent and Blaufränkisch. Bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical, dense, with pronounced "wings". Berries are medium-sized, round, blue-black in color with a thick waxy bloom; the pulp is juicy, and the juice is slightly colored.

The plant has high growth vigor, requiring intensive green canopy management. The variety is characterized by medium resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and grey mold, frost resistance down to -19...-22 °C, and susceptibility to rachis and berry shrivel.

Wines from this variety have a ruby-red color and an intense fruity aroma with notes of berries. The flavor profile is characterized by a moderate tannin content and good acidity, making them suitable for both early consumption and aging.
