Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is native to Greece and is found in Cyprus. The name derives from the Greek word for "iron," which is associated with the high firmness of the berry skin. The grape is considered a wine variety, although it is sometimes used as a table grape and is frequently used in blends.

The vine is characterized by vigorous growth, productivity, and requires pruning. The flower is hermaphroditic. The berries have pink skin and a thick, durable outer layer. Ripening is often uneven, which may require harvesting in two passes in late October or November.

The variety possesses good drought tolerance. Wines made from it are characterized by medium body, a moderate level of alcohol, and aromas of grapefruit, lime, white flowers, pear, as well as spicy notes.
