The variety is a wine grape type. Despite the name "red" ("Roth"), it is not intended for the production of red wines; its berry color varies from golden-yellow to shades with a reddish or greenish tint, depending on ripening conditions.
This variety is characterized as easily mutating. In most morphological and biological characteristics, it is identical to the main Silvaner variety, as it is its natural mutation rather than a result of artificial breeding.
