Field cultivation of radish

Raphanus sativus L.

Growing radish in open field conditions requires consideration of the plant's photoperiodic sensitivity and maintenance of stable soil moisture for the development of high-quality root crops.

In the reference 65 varieties crop Radish, where this is mentioned in the description.

Radish is a long-day crop; therefore, many varieties are prone to rapid bolting when sown in early spring. For winter storage varieties, sowing is performed in June–July so that the developmental period coincides with shortening daylight hours. The crop is cold-resistant: seeds germinate at +2…+5 °C, seedlings can withstand frosts down to -3 °C, and mature plants down to -6 °C, although optimal growth occurs at temperatures of +18…+20 °C.

The plant requires loose loamy or sandy loam soils with a neutral pH, and the application of fresh organic matter directly to the crop is not recommended. To prevent root crop deformation, the formation of cavities, and cracking, it is necessary to maintain soil moisture at 70% of field capacity (FC). Crop rotation excludes planting after members of the Brassicaceae family due to the high risk of clubroot accumulation, vascular bacteriosis, and cruciferous flea beetles.
