Ploidy of pear

Pyrus communis L.

Most pear cultivars are diploid with a chromosome set of 2n = 34 and a nuclear DNA content of approximately 1.14 pg/2C. Polyploid forms, including triploids, are characterized by an increased DNA content (approximately 1.77 pg/2C) and larger cell, fruit, and leaf sizes.
