Olive productivity

Olive productivity is determined by the mass of fruit per tree or hectare and the oil yield, which accounts for 16–22% of the fruit mass. This indicator is highly dependent on the cultivation system, tree age, and varietal characteristics.

For olives, productivity is expressed in kilograms of fruit per tree in traditional orchards or tons per hectare in intensive plantations. A critically important parameter of crop quality is the oil yield. Modern research also evaluates water productivity, expressed as the ratio of the mass of harvested fruit to the volume of water used.

Yield depends on the cultivation technology: at low planting density, mature trees produce over 100 kg of fruit, while in super-intensive orchards, the total system productivity reaches 8–12 t/ha due to high planting density. Maximum productivity levels are typical for trees aged 20 to 40 years.

An important factor is alternate bearing, which requires agrotechnical management to stabilize yields. The efficiency of the system is determined by the choice of a high-precocity variety, as well as pruning methods and nitrogen fertilization, which influence the distribution of nutrients in the tree.
