The tree is distinguished by vigorous growth, a prominent trunk, and a wide canopy consisting of strong, flexible, and fertile branches. The fruits of the variety are medium to large in size and are attached to long peduncles. The variety is characterized by good, regular yields and high resistance to common pests.

The variety is grown primarily for the production of mild-flavored olive oil, suitable for a wide range of culinary purposes. Carbona is also used in blends for the production of oils with a protected designation of origin, in particular Tergeste oil.
