The tree is characterized by an upright habit and dense foliage, with medium-sized elliptical leaves. Small fruits weighing 1.5–2 g have an elliptical asymmetric shape, their color changing from green to black upon ripening.

The variety is early-flowering, mid-season, partially self-compatible, and has regular productivity. Oil yield is 15–17%. The oil has an intense aroma with notes of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and almonds, and a harmonious flavor with distinct bitterness and persistent pungency.

The variety has low tolerance to the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa. It is known by numerous synonyms, including Saracena, Cellina leccese, Cellina salentina, and others.
