Variety description

10 August 2026

The name Cerexia, meaning "cherry" in the Sardinian language, is used to denote a type of olive with characteristic rounded fruits. In an agronomic context, this type of olive is identified as the autochthonous variety Nera di Oliena, also known as Nera di Villacidro or Tonda di Villacidro.

The plants have medium vigor, dense foliage, and are characterized by good cold resistance. The variety is late-maturing, with harvesting taking place in the period from December to February. The fruit mass is 4.5–5 g, the shape is symmetrically spherical, and the color turns black upon ripening.

The olives are used primarily for the production of medium-yield olive oil. The variety has medium resistance to the olive fruit fly, bacterial knot, and the fungal disease peacock spot.
