The variety is an autochthonous cultivar widespread in Catalonia, Spain. It belongs to the genetic group of traditional varieties and is considered an object for the restoration and conservation of genetic diversity in specialized collections and research stations.

In production, the Negret olive is used as an auxiliary component, employed in small proportions in blends with other varieties to create locally produced oils. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety are absent in open publications.
