The variety is classified as an oil type and is used in the production of olive oil in the Nîmes region, where it is often included in blends with the primary variety «Picholine». It is an autochthonous local variety that formed as a result of centuries of folk selection in the Mediterranean.

In scientific literature, the variety is considered an independent genotype, included in French olive genetic resource collections and identified using molecular markers. Agronomic characteristics of the plant are not presented in open sources.
