The Negrinha de Freixo tree is characterized by low vigor, medium canopy density, and an open habit. Leaves have an elliptic-lanceolate shape, medium width, and short length.

Fruits reach a weight of 2–4 g and have a high flesh-to-pit ratio. The variety is characterized by early onset of bearing and regular yield, although fruits are prone to natural shedding due to low attachment force to the pedicel.

The primary use of the variety is canning. The fruits are valued for their specific taste qualities, and the plant itself is well adapted to the conditions of the northeastern regions of Portugal.
