The Peranzana variety, often referred to as Provenzale, is a dual-purpose crop with trees of medium-low vigor and a spreading crown. The leaves are elliptic-lanceolate in shape, and the fruits, with a mass of about 3 g, acquire a purple color upon ripening.
Peranzana belongs to late-ripening varieties with a partially self-compatible flowering type. Productivity is characterized as medium-high with possible periodicity. The resulting oil is distinguished by low acidity and a high content of polyphenols.
In the Campania region, the name Provenzale is traditionally applied to the local ecotype of the Ortice variety. This variety is also dual-purpose and is used both for producing high-quality oil and for table purposes.
