Variety description

10 August 2026

The Beurré Rance variety, also known as Beurré de Ranz, was discovered in 1762 in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. The development of the variety was carried out by Abbé Hardenpont, and it was also mentioned in the experimental work of Baron Van Mons.

The fruits of this variety are classified as dessert and are characterized by a green skin color, a rich aroma, and a wine-like taste. It is a late-ripening variety which in 19th-century literature was described as a winter variety, suitable for consumption in the period from December to spring.
