The variety is of Belgian origin, first discovered in the garden of the Les Urbanistes monastery in Mechelen around 1783. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth, a spreading canopy with dense branches, and good hardiness.

The fruits are medium-sized, obovate or oblong-ovate in shape, ripening in late September — October. The skin is smooth, thin, light yellow in color, sometimes with a blush and russeting. The flesh is white, tender, melting, very juicy, sweet, and aromatic.

The variety is intended for fresh consumption and has historically been highly valued in amateur gardening.
