The variety was obtained in 1896 by Federico Paulsen from the parent forms Vitis berlandieri Resseguier 2 and Vitis rupestris du Lot. The plant has small, rounded, kidney-shaped leaves with an open lyre-shaped petiolar sinus. The flower is functionally female, clusters are small, berries are dark blue.
This variety has high tolerance to the root form of phylloxera and nematodes. It is distinguished by moderately high resistance to calcareous soils, withstanding up to 17% active lime, as well as resistance to drought, salinity, and waterlogging. The variety possesses good rooting and grafting ability.
