The variety belongs to the genetically diverse Malvasia group, but has no direct link to other varieties of this group. It is characterized as mid-season and is used exclusively in winemaking for the production of blended red wines.

The grape is used in the creation of regional DOC category wines, such as Terre dell'Alta Val d'Agri and Grottino di Roccanova. The variety is rare and is practically not used for the production of single-varietal wines.
