Malvasia Rei B is not an independent variety in a genetic sense, but represents the Palomino variety, which in Spain serves as the primary raw material for Sherry production. In Portugal, the variety is grown in the Douro, Beiras, and Lisbon regions.
The variety is classified as a wine grape and is distinguished by high yield, which requires regulation to achieve proper quality. Like many representatives of the Vitis vinifera species, the vine is sensitive to high humidity and is susceptible to fungal diseases, in particular, grey mold (Botrytis cinerea).
