The variety has ancient cultural origins and is historically associated with the Dubrovnik region, although it has Greek roots. It is genetically identical to the Italian variety Malvasia di Lipari and has a number of synonyms in other Mediterranean countries.
The variety belongs to the late maturity group and is characterized by low yields. The berries are large, round in shape, and change color from greenish to yellowish during the ripening process. The plant is sensitive to growing conditions and is susceptible to fungal diseases, requiring a dry climate and well-drained soils.
The grapes are intended exclusively for winemaking. They are used to produce dry wines with floral and fruity notes, as well as dessert wines, such as prošek. The products are distinguished by good structure, minerality, and aging potential.
