The variety is the result of a natural cross between Malvasia and Marmajuelo varieties. It adapted to the specific conditions of the Canary Islands following volcanic eruptions in the 18th century and is considered unique to this region.
The vines are adapted to grow in volcanic soils and are cultivated primarily on slopes or in volcanic valleys. The variety is characterized by low yields.
The grapes are used for the production of white wines possessing high acidity, minerality, and aromas of tropical fruits, citrus, and flowers. A salty note is often present in the taste.
