The variety is one of the oldest white varieties on the island of Sardinia and is officially included in the National Registry of Grape Varieties of Italy. Genetic studies have confirmed its identity with Malvasia delle Lipari, Greco di Gerace, and a number of other regional names. There is a mutation with pinkish berries known as Malvasia di Sardegna Rosada.
The plant belongs to late-maturing varieties. Like other representatives of the Malvasia family, this grape has high fertility and sensitivity to diseases in conditions of high humidity, in particular to grey mold.
The variety is used exclusively in winemaking. Wines based on it are distinguished by pronounced aromaticity, structure, and the ability for long aging. In the organoleptics of the finished drinks, notes of dried fruits, honey, almonds, hazelnuts, and characteristic saline shades stand out.
