Variety description

The variety has ancient, likely Greek, origins and developed as a local cultivar as a result of centuries of adaptation to the conditions of the Aeolian archipelago. It is a wine grape variety intended for the production of Malvasia delle Lipari DOC wines, including versions made from raisined grapes.
The plant has high vigor and a late maturity period. The leaf is medium-sized, rounded, and five-lobed. The bunch is medium-sized, cylindrical or conical, and loose. The berries are medium or small, spherical, with thin yellow-green skin.
The productivity of the variety is low and characterized as irregular. The variety is sensitive to abiotic factors and requires specific growing conditions on volcanic and sandy soils. The grapes are distinguished by high aromatic intensity, which imparts a pronounced minerality to the wines.
