The variety is traditional for the Mediterranean, in particular for the Dalmatia region in Croatia. In official classifications, it is often mentioned as a variety authorized for winemaking, however, it is also grown as a table grape in home gardens and on pergolas.
The variety has complex synonymy and often appears alongside the forms Krivnjača viola, Krivuja modra, Krivača ljubičasta, Adventina and Cornichon violet. Due to the similarity in taxonomy of the Krivača/Žirnjača group, close but distinct forms may be hidden under these names.
Morphologically, the variety is distinguished by clusters of medium to large size and elongated, pointed berries. At the same time, exhaustive data on the specific maturity group, disease resistance and detailed product quality parameters are absent in available publications.
