Škrlet is an old variety originating from the Moslavina and Pokuplje wine regions in Croatia. The variety has many synonyms, including Škrtec, Vinek žuti, Ovnek žuti, Osukač, and Kanigl Grüner.
The plants are characterized by high vine vigor and late start of the growing season. The variety is characterized by a medium to long ripening period and relative resistance to grape diseases, while providing stable yields.
The name of the variety is often associated with the appearance of characteristic reddish spots on the skin of the berries when they reach full maturity. The variety belongs to historical folk varieties whose breeding does not have a specific authorship.
