Variety traits
Pyrus communis L.
A biological trait of pear that determines a cultivar's adaptation to moisture deficit and hot summers. It is assessed through the water-holding capacity of leaf tissues and their ability to restore turgor.
In the reference 13 varieties crop European pear, where this is mentioned in the description.
The assessment of drought tolerance in pear is based on the study of water regime, including indicators of tissue hydration and the ability of leaf discs to retain moisture during dehydration. Tolerant cultivars demonstrate more stable hydration indicators, reaching 64–72%, while in less tolerant forms, the moisture level in tissues can drop to 55–59%.
Insufficient drought tolerance leads to physiological stress, causing leaf margin scorch, premature leaf and fruit drop, as well as a significant decrease in yield. The degree of damage to vegetative organs varies greatly depending on the cultivar, with both the genetic potential of the scion and the type of rootstock used playing a key role in adaptation.
