Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety Chrysolia is classified as Olea europaea var. chrysophylla or O. europaea subsp. cuspidata. In genetic studies, it often acts as a distinct genotype or an outgroup when studying Greek olive cultivars.

The plant is used primarily for ornamental purposes and can reach a height of 4 meters or more. The leaves are dense, with a small leaf blade 4.5 to 5.2 cm long and a length-to-width ratio of 4.2–5.5:1.

The fruits are small, weighing about 0.5 g, and have a mastoid shape with a characteristic nipple-like protrusion. The oil content in the fruits reaches 12%, however, its quality is considered low.
