The Ciera variety is a local Italian cultivar whose history of cultivation in the Frosinone area can be traced back to the beginning of the 16th century. The large-scale spread of the variety occurred in the early 19th century as part of programs to increase olive orchard areas; today, it is most popular in the hills of Monte San Giovanni Campano.
Oil obtained from the fruits of this variety is characterized by a green fruity profile with notes of grass, almond, apple, and aromatic herbs. The product is distinguished by a medium concentration of polyphenols, a high content of oleic acid, and high fluidity, due to the optimal ratio of unsaturated and saturated fatty acids.
