The variety originates from the Monte Vulture area in the Basilicata region; about 50 years ago it was introduced to Apulia, where it is found in olive groves. The plant is characterized by a dense canopy. The harvest period falls between October and January.
The variety is used for the production of olive oil both in mono-varietal form and in blends with other local varieties. The oil has a medium-intense flavor with notes of fresh olive, bitter almond, and herbal shades, with a balanced degree of bitterness and pungency.
